From 1994 onwards Seat cars use an immobiliser system which will prevent the vehicle from starting without the correct key. The immobiliser is deactivated by a transponder chip that has been embedded in to the key. Earlier models use a spare immobiliser box that talks to the cars ECU while later models use an immobiliser system that is combined with the dashboard clocks.
