Who can get into your home?
When you move house, changing the locks is something which you can easily overlook. With all of the hectic issues you are dealing with, it is not exactly top of the agenda. But it can be a frightening thought when you consider just how many people might have keys to your home. The previous owners may have seemed quite trustworthy, but who did they give copies to? Did they even change the locks when they moved in? If not, what about the people that lived there before? Think about any times you gave a set of keys to your home away. Or even loaned them to someone. It only take a minute or two make an extra set.
You are almost twice as likely to be burgled in the first year of living in your home than the the national average. For your safety and peace of mind we would recommend you follow police advice and have the locks changed in your new home as soon as possible, even before you have finished unpacking. Remember, if you are going to be burgled, the very worst time it could happen is while all of your belongings are all nicely boxed and ready to be removed.
